Place of Heaven

Gulmarg is a famous hill station and ski resort in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. Its name means “Meadow of Flowers,” and it is located at an altitude of about 2,650 meters (8,690 feet) in the Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas. It is around 50–60 km from Srinagar, making it a popular day trip as well as a longer holiday destination.

Main attractions

  • Gulmarg Gondola – One of the world’s highest cable cars, taking visitors toward Apharwat Peak for spectacular mountain views, skiing, and snow activities.
  • Apharwat Peak – A popular destination for skiing, snowboarding, and trekking.
  • Gulmarg Golf Course – One of the world’s highest green golf courses.
  • Khilanmarg – A scenic meadow known for wildflowers in summer and panoramic Himalayan views.

Best time to visit

  • December to March: Ideal for snowfall, skiing, snowboarding, and winter sports.
  • April to June: Pleasant weather with blooming flowers and lush green meadows.
  • July to September: Good for sightseeing and nature walks, though occasional rain is possible.
